(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/9/23) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is responding to the ongoing situation in Israel and Gaza by urging all Americans to reach out to their respective members of Congress and request the following actions:
- Acknowledge the loss of lives and recognize the humanity on both sides, including Israelis and Palestinians.
- Express support for an immediate ceasefire.
- Demand the United States to reassert its leadership role as a negotiator in pursuit of a lasting peace. This entails addressing the root causes of violence, terminating Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories, and ending the Israeli government’s apartheid policies.

The key to achieving enduring peace remains addressing Israel’s unlawful occupation of Palestinian lands, apartheid state policies, and the ongoing violations of Palestinian human rights.
“We call upon Congress to endorse the appeal for an immediate ceasefire and to leverage its influence in advocating for a just and enduring peace that encompasses an end to the occupation and the establishment of a permanent solution that respects the rights and dignity of all people,” said CAIR Director of Government Affairs Department Robert S. McCaw. “The Israeli government has for decades utilized American taxpayer funds to support its apartheid occupation and perpetrate human rights violations against Palestinian civilians. Congress cannot permit this to persist if we genuinely aspire to secure a lasting peace.”
CAIR believes that the world cannot return to a status quo in which Israeli human rights abuses continually increase, Palestinian rights decrease, and Palestinian men, women and children die without any public notice until a war breaks out. Our nation must impartially intervene to end this violence before more innocent people die.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
