(CLEVELAND, OH, 11/8/23) – The Cleveland chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Cleveland), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on law enforcement authorities to investigate a bloody decapitated doll reportedly left at a home in Sylvania, Ohio, flying a Palestinian flag as a possible hate crime.
On Monday, Nov. 7, around 12 p.m., a decapitated doll covered in what appeared to be in fake blood was found on display by the owner of the home under the hanging Palestinian flag on the yard.
The alleged victims of this anti-Palestinian incident reported to CAIR-Cleveland that their yard leads to a main road and their doorbell footage was unable to reach the location of where the incident took place. The alleged victims reported the incident to Sylvania Police Department who then advised the family to be careful.
Faten Odeh, CAIR-Ohio, Cleveland Interim Executive Director said:
“We call on state, local and federal law enforcement authorities to monitor and investigate crimes related to the rising Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism. We hope the Sylvania Police Department will do its due diligence in collecting all the information they need to identify the perpetrator and to consider bringing a hate crime charge. We should all feel safe in our neighborhoods and be able to display our heritage without fear of hate-filled retaliation from our neighbors.”
This incident is still under investigation and the owners of the home are asking for anyone who has any information or footage to please call the Sylvania Police Department at 419-885-8902.
Washington, D.C., based CAIR has documented a spike in reported bias incidents since the escalation of violence in Israel and Palestine on Oct. 7.
