CAIR-OHIO Congratulates Akron’s New Muslim Mayor Shammas Malik

(CLEVELAND, OH, 01/04/24) – On Sunday, Dec. 31, Shammas Malik was officially sworn in on a Quran as Akron’s 63rd Mayor.

Malik served on Akron’s City Council since 2019 and contributed to a variety of monumental initiatives including the Gaza Ceasefire Resolution passed in the Fall of 2023.

CAIR-Ohio, Cleveland Executive Director, Faten Odeh stated,

“CAIR-Ohio would like to congratulate Mayor Shammas Malik on his new position as Mayor for the City of Akron. We hope he will be an example for all Muslims aspiring to achieve positions of leadership and make a positive impact in our world.”
