(CLEVELAND, OH, 7/24/23) –On Monday, June 26, the Cleveland and Northern Ohio chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) joined the Young Latino Network & Arab American Voter Project for a !Fiesta Hafla¡ to mobilize our communities to the polls. Interim Executive Director Faten Odeh, Staff Attorney Chance Zurub, and Board Member Melaak Rashid were in attendance.

There was a mix of Middle Eastern and Latin dishes offered and attendees engaged in discussions on critical topics, including the recent partnership with CAIR-Ohio and OPAWL for the Educating for Ohio’s Future bill. This bill aims to enhance educational opportunities for marginalized communities, and together, we are working towards its realization.

In addition to celebrating culture and promoting community building, the Fiesta Hafla event also provided valuable resources and information on voter registration and the upcoming elections. All organizations involved are actively engaged in empowering individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to exercise their right to vote.

“It is truly inspiring to witness the dedication of young people of color in mobilizing our communities to the polls,” expressed Faten Odeh, CAIR-Cleveland & Northern Ohio’s Interim Executive Director. “As we approach the important Special Election on August 8th, we must understand the impact it will have on our democracy. Let us come together, learn more about issue 1, and unite our voices in voting ‘no’ on this issue.”

CAIR is committed to voter education and empowerment and has been actively engaged in registering the Muslim community to vote, educating people on upcoming elections, mobilizing communities to get their voices heard.
